Hello !

I have this situation:
-up to the moment, everithing is working fine.I'm able to produce
my projects and they look very nice. But (there is always one...),
I have the felling that this is shear miracle. Why this? Resident in
the same directory are:
---MikTex 2.5 (complete 1.04 MB)
---tex(39 MB )
---TeXnicCenter( 14 MB )
---WinEdit (34.4)
--- local texmf(23.2)
--- texmf (129 MB)
---and some other archives to store ongoing projects, and ready ones.

Well, this does not seems practical. I have down loaded everything
out of ignorance.
Please, can someone suggest a practical organization for all these
files?
thank you in advance

Hi Eugen,
I wonder about your file managing, since miktex manages the files. when
you install it. If you have all necessary files, my only suggestion I
can give (perhaps not the best) is to reinstall miktex. Then let miktex
do everything, and everything will be organised properly.
But there may be other solutions, which are easier than to reinstall
everything. I would however not move the file by my own, because I don't
know if LaTeX will be working afterwords.

Thank you Yannik for your prompt response.

My highest ambitions are to become a good miktexer user. So, I will let
things stay as they are, and keep writing my thesis. But I have
installed full MikTex and that 1.04GB became to much, slowed down to
limits. If I uninstall full MikTex,I wonder what will go away along
with it.
What to do, besides letting it stay as it is?
Still thanking you in advance

Hi Eugen,

Since MiKTeX supports the installation of missing packages 'on the fly'
I can recommend You to uninstall the full MiKTeX 2.5 (1 GB) and only
install the "BASIC" MiKTeX installation. For example I have downloaded
all packages via the MiKTeX net-installer to a DVD-RAM and install
the BASIC MiKTeX from this local repository...so I don't have to be
connected to the internet for installing needed packages and at the same
time save HD-space...

Updates of MiKTeX 2.5 can be included into this local repository (DVD-RAM)
by running the net-installer once more - only updated files will be
downloaded
to the local repository...

Another advantage of this 'offline' repository is that one can install
and update
MiKTeX on computers that are not connected to the internet.

I think, you can also delete the 'local texmf' and 'texmf' directories
- it looks like
they are outdated MiKTeX 2.4 installations...

For testing, if they are needed - just rename the directories and make a
test compilation
of Your tex-files.

Greetings
Kristof

Dear Eugen,

the so-called NET-installer is a special version of the setup-file for
MiKTeX 2.5
(found on www.miktex.org) that can be directly downloaded from here:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/miktex/setup-2.5.2449.exe?download

Starting this setup-file You can choose to download the complete
installation files to Your Harddisk, DVD-RAM or FLASH-Drive
for offline installation... (The normal installer won't offer this option!)

In this 'offline' package repository You found the actual setup-file for
installation of the 'BASIC' MiKTeX 2.5!

Have fun!
